St. Cyril Glagolitic alphabet. About the roots of the Slavic spirituality

Abstract

The article dwells on the concept of phenomenon of the first Slavic Glagolitic alphabet as a Christian symbolic system. A universal nature of the Glagolic alphabet is shown as a system of script, combining the features of phonography and ideography, the appropriate principles of the alphabet and character forming are revealed. Christian symbolic structure, ontology of Glagolic alphabet, created by st. Cyril testify to the valuable basis of Slavic bookish writing tradition. To-gather with the alphabet the Slaves got the symbolic model of culture, based on the Christian world outlook.
