Abstract

In the middle of the XIX century the Russian Buddhology occupied its niche in the world Buddhology. It was due in a large measure to the geopolitics of Russia (geographical proximity to Mongolia, China and Tibet, political interests). That allowed to single out basic philosophical categories and concepts, worked out in Buddhism of the later period, not just giving a historical descriptive analyses of the early texts of Buddhism, as it was a case with West. A considerable part of buddhologists displayed a special interest towards the schools of Tibetan Buddhism (especially towards the Gelug school), it is exactly this school that is widely spread in Russia.
