Abstract

The ministry of the Great Duchess St. Elizabeth Pheodorovna Romanova in Russia through to her martyrs death in June 1918 has been studied on the basis of the vast historical material including archives. The ministry to God, people and Motherland was fostered in all layers of society by the Church and the state. The Great Duchess showed the example of a wholehearted, self-rejecting feat and was named The Great Matushka by people. The stages of her ascent and development of features of her personal deed are singled out in the article. The deed was fully demonstrated in Sts. Martha and Mary Abode of Charity. Within the structures of the Red Cross under her leadership or with her participation the assistance was rendered to about a million families of the soldiers who had gone to the front. Her holy life and her blessed death were commemorated by the Russian Orthodox Church by glorifying her as a saint. While at the present time we witness all over the renunciation on the part of people to serve the Lord wholeheartedly, people and Motherland, the example of zealous missionary of the Great Duchess is extremely important and precious, it helps us to embark on a bright road of missionary service, leading our Motherland and us to recreation, to light, to Victory.
