Phenomenon of the Counterculture and its Religious Aspects in the Light of Philosophical and Theological Reflection

Abstract

Article deals with the religious component of the youth protesting movement of the 1960’s and its analysis by the Western philosophers and theologians. The author agues, that religious and nihilistic counterculture connotations were associated with criticism of Western technocratic civilization and lead to the search for God and passion for new religious practices. Particular attention is paid to the fact, that some Catholic and Protestant theologians saw in the counterculture the impetus for the new Christian consciousness.
