Interconfessional "triangle": history of the Church diplomacy of Russia, France and England on the Holy Land (30-ies of the XIX century)

Abstract

The article gives a review of the religious presence of the three great powers - France, Great Britain and Russia, - on the Holy Land during the period of forming the European Church diplomacy in the Middle East in the 30-ies of the XIX century. Prerequisites of setting up the Anglo-Prussian protestant episcopacy, Latin patriarchate and the Russian spiritual mission in Jerusalem have been traced. The activity of representatives of the Church and diplomatic departments is shown within the context of international and interconfessional opposition and competion.
