Stanislav Sestrentsevich and his activity in setting up a centralized control over the Roman Catholic Church in Russia within the period of 1796-1801

Abstract

The article deals with the views of Stanislav Sestrentsevich, metropolitan of the Roman Catholic church in Russia, on mutual relations of hierarchical structures of the Russian Catholic church; the influence of autocracy on these views are considered. The author comes to the conclusion, that due to some concessions in the process of redistributing of powers of authority inside the Russian Catholic Church Sestrentsevich managed to return to power in 1801 and to hold on a post another quarter of a century.
