The image of newly canonized martyrs in the history of Russia

Abstract

The article is devoted to the most complicated period in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church - period of persecution of the fi rst half of XX cen., the preservation and survival of which is presented by examples of the way of life and work of such outstanding representatives as bishop Arseny (Zhadanovsky), archbishops Varpholomei (Remov) and Illarion (Troitsky). The ar ticle contains the richest archival and archeographic materials.
