Apophaticism of Dionysius the Areopagite and the Byzantine theory of image as ideological sources of ontological theory of name

Abstract

An analysis is given in the article of the onomastic concepts of the late Bysantian period given in the works of the author of Corpus Areopagiticum, St. Maximus the Confessor, John of Damascus, Theodore of Studium, where the notions of image, symbol, name acquire the central meaning. The patristic teaching about the nature of these philosophical and theological notions is considered in the article as one of the main sources of the Russian philosophy of name at the beginning of XX c.
