The reasons behind politicization of Islam in the modern world

Abstract

The basic reasons behind politicization of Islam in the modern world are the processes of globalization and modernization. We can single out 2 stages of global Islamisation: 1960-s and 1990-s of XX century. The aim of politisation of Islam is not the return to the past and not conservation of archaic elements of the present, but the aspiration for conducting a successful modernization of the society. The reasons for politisation of islam should be analyzed at different levels: global, regional, and at the level of separate states. Politisation of Islam at the global level - that is the search for an alternative (non-Western) way of the society development. Radicalism - is an extreme form of politisation of religion. The process of politisation is inherent to all world religious systems as a whole. Politisation of religion is a constant process, taking place as long as religion and politics exist in the society.
