Psalms in the poetry of George Herbert

Abstract

The lyrics of the English poet-metaphysician George Herbert (1593-1633) is analyzed in the aspect of the psalmody poetry. The aim of the analyses is to show how and with what aim the poetry and the subject of the psalms function in the religious poetry of Herbert. The conclusions of the article are applied to the works of art, which inherited the bible figurative and poetic system.
