Abstract

Studying medieval documents we get to know a lot not only about the Russian language development but we also acquire some new facts in history which allows us to preserve our literary heritage and traditions. Patriarch Nikon was one of the most outstanding figures in the Russian history and history of the Russian Church. In his work Homily about the Plague he persuades his parishioners to keep the fast and pray to be saved from the plague and explains them the Word of God. The article studies linguistic and textual peculiarities of the Homily and some features of the Second South Slavic Influence that has been reflected in the given literary monument.
