Islamic factor in the military and political processes in Chechnya

Abstract

The article considers the role and place of the so-called traditional Islam in the form of Sufism in the military and political processes, occurred in the recent past in the Chechen Republic, it analyses the reasons behind the influence of the Islamic factor on these processes, it is being emphasized that the Sufi tariqats: the nakshbandiya and quadiriyya, played a different role in the military conflicts - the followers of the first tariqat were. in opposition to the Ichkerian regime, and the followers of the second one took an active part on the side of D. Dudaev, Z. Yandarbiev, A Maskhadov. The article reveals how the radical religious -political movement of Wahabiism, unknown before that in Chechnya, appeared in the process of exacerbated military and political conflict, which worsened the social and political situation in Chechnya, which was far from being simple all time before that.
