Abstract

The article deals with the issues of state policy of Russia in the Middle East within the period of the first decade after the Crimean war. The activity of bishop Cyril (Naumov) at the post of the chief of the Russian Spiritual mission in Jerusalem within the period of setting up the first Russian institutions in Palestine is considered on the bases of a vast documentary material. The mechanism of the concept elaboration of the Russian presence in the East is shown with due account taken of political, diplomatic and Church interests in Russia.
